This is a ProLogis development.
Creation of a 112 acre, high profile employment park, along with the delivery of 1,124,000 sq ft, including the procurement of the award wining, zero carbon rated 618,500 sq ft warehouse for Sainsburys.
Built to the highest environmental standard, achieving BREEAM Excellent to meet Sainsbury’s strict sustainable criteria.
Reduced energy consumption by up to 40% over a standard warehouse.
Overall winner of EG ‘Green Award’ for best sustainable development.
Sustainable features on Sainsbury’s included:
- Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHP Plant) offering a 50 – 60% reduction in carbon emissions. Gas used to generate heat and electricity, which is then used to run the warehouse refrigeration system; the additional electricity is used on-site to run the facility
- Onsite resource recycling unit utilizing the hot water from the CHP plant
- Larger area of roof lights (15%) to maximize natural daylight combined with intelligent low-energy lighting system
- Narrow plate office buildings to enhance natural lighting, combined with brise soleil to minimize solar gain
- South facing walls constructed as solar collectors; this virtually eliminates the need for frost protection heating
- Innovative wall mounted photovoltaic panels to harness solar energy
- Built up cladding system capable of re-use at the end of the building lifecycle
- Rainwater harvesting saving an estimated 16 million litres of water a year
- Superior airtight construction to minimize air permeability from the building envelope
