Our Commitment

If the 20th Century was about consumption, then the 21st Century must be about preservation.

At First Industrial, we recognise our responsibility in making such a shift happen. It’s embodied in the First Industrial Sustainable Approach that pledges every new building we develop will be Carbon Neutral having a zero impact on the global environment.

We believe sustainability is about a ‘way of working’, not merely a component part of the development process. Our aim is to help you find the optimum balance between environmental protection, social responsibility and financial return.

In following the First Industrial Sustainable Approach we have adopted leading edge carbon reduction technologies to reduce embodied carbon at source and through our suppliers. Over 96% of a standard First Industrial superstructure is capable of being re-cycled.

In addition, we invest in high quality carbon credits to offset the remaining embodied carbon, allowing a First Industrial building to be completed and independently certified as ‘Carbon Neutral’.

Sustainability beyond the built environment

It’s our firm belief that sustainability needs to reach far beyond the building form itself and that any development must be carefully considered for its wider impact on the surrounding area.

If that means preserving a natural wildlife habitat, respecting indigenous species or complementing the prevailing architectural style, then that’s what we’ll do.

To be considered truly sustainable, every aspect of a development must work in complete harmony.

Take the design of the transport infrastructure, for instance. Often, cycle ways, footpaths and extended bus routes - along with pro-active car sharing initiatives - can add quality to the working environment while making the journey to and from work easier and quicker for building inhabitants.

Further proof that good sustainable thinking can go hand-in-hand with sound business sense.
